Military members receive significant tax benefits during deployment, including the Combat Zone Tax Exclusion (CZTE), automatic filing extensions, and free tax preparation services through installation tax centers and the IRS VITA program.
Filing extensions: If deployed to a combat zone, you automatically receive at least 180 days after leaving the zone to file your return and pay any taxes due. This also applies to your spouse on joint returns.
