The Servicemembers Civil Relief Act (SCRA) provides powerful legal protections for active-duty service members including lease termination, interest rate caps, eviction protection, and civil court stay of proceedings. These protections also apply to activated Guard and Reserve members.
How to invoke SCRA: Contact your creditor or landlord in writing, include a copy of your military orders, cite the specific SCRA provision, and send via certified mail with return receipt. Your JAG office can draft these letters for free.
