TRICARE Overview
TRICARE is the U.S. military's health care program, functioning as government-managed health insurance. Managed by the Pentagon's Defense Health Agency, TRICARE provides coverage for millions of current and former service members and their families across all six branches of the Uniformed Services.
Important: Active-duty service members are automatically enrolled in TRICARE Prime. Family members and retirees can choose between TRICARE Prime (HMO-style) or TRICARE Select (PPO-style) based on their preferences for provider choice and out-of-pocket costs.
