Staying Connected
Communication options and resources for staying in touch during deployment
Before deploying, discuss and agree on a communication plan with your family. Setting expectations helps reduce anxiety on both ends.
Discuss Before You Go:
- Expected frequency of contact
- Best times to call (time zones)
- Backup communication methods
- Who contacts who if no word
Important Notes:
- Communication may be limited or blacked out
- OPSEC - never discuss mission details
- Keep conversations positive when possible
- Have a code word for emergencies
