Communication Plan

Reintegration

Staying Connected

Communication options and resources for staying in touch during deployment

Create a Communication Plan

Before deploying, discuss and agree on a communication plan with your family. Setting expectations helps reduce anxiety on both ends.

Discuss Before You Go:

  • Expected frequency of contact
  • Best times to call (time zones)
  • Backup communication methods
  • Who contacts who if no word

Important Notes:

  • Communication may be limited or blacked out
  • OPSEC - never discuss mission details
  • Keep conversations positive when possible
  • Have a code word for emergencies
